It was that time again in the year to take yourself away from the routine trip to the high street or the from in front of the tv. Making excuses was out of the question with the exception of Arsenal or Aston Ville fans, Even the bad weather knew to stay away to allow the great sunshine visit the 2nd Jamaican Experience held over at Waterlow Park Centre in North London, UK.
The Jamaica Experience event is set to take place twice a year is presented by the Jamaica High Commission hosted by the High Commissioner of Jamaica to the UK, Aloun Ndombet-Assamba. It also gives people a taste of a traditional Jamaican event that is held in St Elizabeth called Calabash that celebrates the richness and diversity of Jamaica’s Culture, Arts and Literature. This event is very suitable for the very young and was well attended by elders who took the opportunity to mingle and talk about the land that they love.
The Jamaica Experience gave guest an opportunity to participate in the activities to give recitals, readings and poetry. It was great to see Linda Hudson’s acting out a segment of a very funny play in the Jamaican Pathos.
The entertainment being the general focus with ‘H’ Patton playing some good old Minto music with the dingi mini and folk songs from Jamaica. But that was not all, as delights were given by Novalist, Poets and Cultural Historians with a Jamaican theme.
